The state of affairs regarding private practice by doctors and medical teachers working in government hospitals and medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh has become very strict. All districts’ magistrates and chief medical officers have been asked to submit a report on or before February 20.

There have been complaints about doctors and medical teachers working in government hospitals and medical colleges of the state doing private practice. In this regard, while hearing the case of Dr. Arvind Gupta vs State and others, the High Court had also summoned a report from the department. In the entire matter, a report regarding the action taken after the investigation was sought from all District Magistrates and Chief Medical Officers.

Till now, almost a report has not been received from the rest of the districts. Subsequently, the High Court converted the matter into a public interest litigation in the hearing that took place on February 10. Under such circumstances, the Principal Secretary of the Medical Health Family Welfare and Medical Education Department Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma on Thursday instructed all District Magistrates, Chief Medical Officers, and Police Officers.

If any such complaints are received against any doctors or medical teachers, a committee meeting should be immediately called and recommendations should be sent to the government for action. Time is granted to this effect till February 20.
