A new page in chess history has been written by D Gukesh as he became the youngest chess champion in the world at the age of 18. He defeated the previous world champion from China, Ding Liren, 32 years old. He achieved this milestone in Singapore and became the 18th World Chess Champion.
It was a tough competition between Gukesh and Liren. The game was tied till the 13th game at 6.5-6.5 but in the 14th game, some mistakes by Liren led Gukesh to win the game by 7.5-6.5.
He broke the record of Russian legend Garry Kasparov, who became the world champion at the age of 22 and became the youngest world champion. Gukesh became the 2nd Indian to win the world champion title after the Indian legend Vishwanath Anand. As per sources, even Vishwanath Anand was amazed by the young talent of 18-year-old Gukesh.
For each win, participants will get $0.2 million and Gukesh won a total of three games. So, his winnings for the games he won will be $0.6 million( around 5 crore).
Apart from this, the final prize money of $1.5 million will be equally divided between Gukesh and Liren. So, the total amount of winnings that he will get will be $1.35 million i.e. around 11.45 crore.
Gukesh has made India proud and at such a young age he has become a champion that we hope that the future brings a lot of success for this grandmaster.
