On Sunday, a Jeju Air plane crashed on landing at Muan International Airport in South Korea. This plane flew from Bangkok, Thailand to Muan, South Korea carrying 175 passengers and 6 crew members. Out of the 181 persons traveling in the aircraft, only two fortunate survivors were lucky to escape a most horrendous accident. Rescuers dug the survivors out of the debris. Both of them are flight attendants.
According to the Muan City Fire Department, only 65 of 179 passengers were identified in the plane crash, due to bodies being severely burnt after the plane crash.
What happened?
During landing, Jeju Airlines flight 7C2216 went off the runway and hit a concrete fence before it caught fire. After the crash, the plane was almost destroyed, with the only portion still identifiable from the ruins of the wreck being the tail assembly.
What is the reason behind this accident?
The probes are being done to trace the accident. Authorities suspect a bird strike and dynamic weather conditions may have contributed to the unfortunate incident.
The government of South Korea has proclaimed seven days of national mourning, till January 4, 2025, for the victims and their families. Jeju Airlines extends its apologies and assures that every possible assistance will be provided from its side.
