One of the most experienced spinners in Indian cricket history, Ravichandran Ashwin
announced his retirement from International cricket this Wednesday. His fans were shocked as this came in between the BGT (Border-Gavaskar Trophy) 2024-25 series. As the third test between India & Australia in Brisbane resulted in a draw, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma was accompanied by Ravichandran Ashwin to address the press conference, where he announced his retirement from all formats of International cricket.
At 38, he reached his decision to retire, one of the reasons being fitness concerns. In the current Indian cricket team, he was one of the senior-most players and his absence has left a void in the team. His experience in bowling is remarkable, with a total of 765 wickets in all three formats. R Ashwin has also contributed with the bat, with 6 Test centuries in his name.
On Thursday morning, R Ashwin returned to his hometown Chennai from Australia. At home, he was welcomed by his family and friends. A crowd of fans also gathered outside his house to greet him. He says that he has no regrets about his decision to leave International cricket. He will continue to play cricket in the IPL. In the 2025 IPL, he will play for Chennai Super Kings.
