The richest man in India, Mukesh Ambani, is again making headlines with the launch of an initial public offering (IPO) of his company Reliance Jio. This IPO is expected to be in the range of ₹ 35,000-40,000 crores, making it the largest IPO in India up to
now. As per reports, this IPO will have both fresh shares as well as an “offer for sale” (OFS). Most probably, this IPO will be coming in the second half of the year 2025. Last year Hyundai Motor India brought an IPO of Rs 27,870.16 crore, which is the most gigantic IPO in the country so far.
As per sources, Reliance Jio has started contacting the pre-IPO placement talks for its IPO. According to the investment bankers, this can be a massive issue and should not have any subscription-related issues. The pre-placement amount will depend on the size of the fresh issue in it. And how much will be an OFS and fresh issue share is yet under consideration.
Sources claim that OFS will occupy a critical position within the Reliance Jio IPO as it would provide room for all existing investors to sell and relieve their stake. Foreigners own one-third of the company. In fact, Reliance raised $18 billion in 2020 from overseas funds such as Abu Dhabi Investment Fund, KKR, Mubadala, and Silver Lake. Many brokerages claim that the valuation of Reliance Jio is likely to be $100 billion. But it is heard from sources that the company is aiming for a valuation of $120 billion.

Reliance Jio has an impressive 460 million wireless subscribers, making it the largest telecom company in India. However, the numbers dropped after the tariff price hike that took place in July 2024. But still, it remains at the top. Now, the launch of 5G services is making a huge portion of the profit for the company.
