The suspense about the name of the Chief Minister for Delhi has been put to rest. Rekha Gupta has been elected the leader of the legislative party. On Wednesday evening, the meeting of newly elected BJP MLAs convened in Delhi, whereby Rekha Gupta was elected the leader of the legislative party. She then met Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena and staked her claim to form a government.
Who is Rekha Gupta?
Rekha Gupta is an MLA from Shalimar Bagh, Delhi. The general secretary of Delhi BJP is Rekha Gupta, and she is also the national vice-president of the BJP Mahila Morcha. Rekha Gupta, aged 50, was born in 1974 in Nandgarh village of Jind district, Haryana. Her father was an officer in the State Bank of India.
So far, how has Rekha Gupta’s political career gone?
After completing her studies, Rekha Gupta joined the Delhi unit of BJP Yuva Morcha in 2003-04 and held the post of secretary there. After that, from 2004 to 2006, she worked as the National Secretary of Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
- In 2007: Elected Councillor from North Pitampura.
- From 2007-09: Two years as president, Women Welfare and Child Development Committee, MCD.
- In 2009: General secretary, Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha.
- In 2010: She was made a member of the National Executive by BJP.
- In 2012: Became a Councillor again from North Pitampura Ward-54.
She got into politics right from her schooling days
Rekha Gupta joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student organization for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), ever since the beginning in her school days. Subsequently, she became successful in contesting the election of secretary in Daulat Ram College while studying in Delhi University. In 1995-96, she contested the Delhi University Students Union elections and became the president. Thereafter, Rekha continued her studies up to the level of LLB.
BJP assigned them the responsibility for the meeting of the legislative party
On Wednesday, February 19, around 3:00 PM, the BJP’s parliamentary board appointed observers to conduct the election of the leader of the party’s legislative party in Delhi. Among the appointees as observers were Ravi Shankar Prasad and OP Dhankar. In their presence, the BJP legislative party meeting was held in the evening.
