On Wednesday morning, a stampede broke out at Sangam in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj in which, around 15 people have been estimated dead and 70 others are injured.
Around 2.30 am, the stampede broke out amid tens of thousands of devotees who turned up for the holy dip on the Ganga river on the occasion of ‘Mauni Amavasya’ during the ongoing Mahakumbh.
Ambulance services rushed to the scene, the injured were shifted to the central hospital in the Mela ground for treatment. Some of the wounded from the stampede died on their way to the hospitals, although no official confirmation of this has yet been made.
P.M. speaks with Yogi two times
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke twice with Yogi Adityanath within an hour after the incident of stampede at Maha Kumbh. The Prime Minister directed for immediate measures to assist the affected. He has instructed his officials to keep him informed and describe efforts that are being undertaken for the management of Kumbh, sources said.
Union minister of home Amit Shah also spoke with the Chief Minister of UP after the incident.
On January 27, Shah took a holy dip in the Ganga river. PM Modi is also expected to go to the Mahakumbh Mela after the invitation extended to him by the UP government, and he will reach there on February 5.
