Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the highest honor of Barbados. The distinguished Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados award was presented to PM Modi for his strategic leadership along with significant assistance. It was on November 20, 2024, when the award was announced by Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley in Georgetown, Guyana.
Reportedly, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated in a release on Thursday that Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita received the award for Prime Minister Modi at the ceremony, which took place in Bridgetown, Barbados. PM Modi expressed his gratitude to the government as well as the citizens of Barbados for this recognition. He mentioned that the honor is dedicated to 140 crore Indians and the close relations existent between India and Barbados.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that this award is a symbol of God’s kindness for lasting friendship between the two countries. The ministry said: ‘The award was announced by Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley during a meeting with Prime Minister Modi on November 20, 2024, during the second India-CARICOM Leaders’ Summit in Georgetown, Guyana.
For what exactly this honour was given to PM Modi?
As per the statement, it had awarded this honour to Prime Minister Modi for strategic direction and valuable assistance during the course of the pandemic caused by COVID-19. The statement further said that Motley recognized the significant role Modi played in international cooperation and support during these most trying times.

The two countries had a history of strong partnership
“This award is a testament to a growing relationship between India and Barbados and our desire towards cooperation and much-needed development in times of crises,” quoted Margherita as saying in the statement. The statement said that India and Barbados have created a strong partnership that has lasted all these years since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1966, with continued engagement and development endeavors.
