A joint team of ATS anti-terrorism squad and Katghar police have managed to arrest the absconding terrorist of Hizbul Mujahideen, Ulfat Hussain. This terrorist, who was absconding for 18 years, had a reward of 25 thousand rupees announced. Ulfat Hussain alias Mohammad Saiful Islam alias Afzal alias Parvez alias Hussain Malik, resident of Fazalabad, Surankot, Poonch (Jammu-Kashmir) was arrested in 2001 from the Katghar police station area of Moradabad.
Among other items recovered, a huge amount of arms and explosives were recovered from his possession. In the said case, Ulfat Hussain was also deceived under 307 IPC, Arms Act, POTA, and Criminal Law Act. Its permanent arrest warrant was released in 2015. After that, he absconded. The Senior Superintendent of Police announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for him on March 2.
Pakistani elements were responsible for terrorist training
The ATS investigation revealed that Ulfat Hussain had undergone terrorist training in 1999-2000 and that he came to Moradabad to plan an act of major terrorism. The weapons and explosives recovered from him were brought in from Pakistan. Based on technical and intelligence inputs, Ulfat Hussain was arrested by the ATS from the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with the Saharanpur ATS team and the Moradabad police.
There are several cases registered against him in Moradabad and Jammu and Kashmir, including under the Arms Act, the Explosives Act, and the Prevention of Terrorism Act. The operation was successfully achieved under the supervision of ATS Inspector in-charge Sudhir Kumar Ujjwal. Inspector Vimal Kishore of the Katghar Police Station, Vipin Kumar, and the team of the Saharanpur field unit of ATS also contributed to its success.
