Jeff Bezos’s company Blue Origin constructed the New Glenn rocket, measuring 320 feet (98 meters) tall, backed by tremendous funding and years of diligent labor. It is intended to place satellites in their proper orbits. After its launch from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida on Thursday morning, the rocket managed to deploy its satellite in orbit around the Earth. However, the rocket booster failed to land on the company’s floating launch pad somewhere in the Atlantic. This rocket ‘New Glenn’ is named after John Glenn the first American to orbit the Earth.
Delay In Launch of ‘New Glenn’
The launch was meant to happen on Monday, but due to some technical problem, the countdown had to be put on hold at the last moment. The rocket was designed to take spacecraft and astronauts into orbit and eventually to the moon.
Blue Origin founded 25 years ago
Founded by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos 25 years ago, Blue Origin has been whisking passengers to the edge of space since 2021. The new New Glenn is five times longer than Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket. Blue Origin is spending more than $1 billion developing the launch site. This will be outside the gate of NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, 9 miles (14 kilometers) from the company’s control centers and rocket factory. He noted during the launch that he does not see Blue Origin and SpaceX competing against one another.
Six to eight flight launches planned this year
Blue Origin plans to complete six to eight flights of New Glenn in this calendar year. The next flight, according to the company, is planned for this spring. According to Bezos, this is the start of a revolutionary phase of the space age. The answer to this is that we, as an industry, are going to own it together and drive down the cost of access to space.
