India has to face a defeat of 184 runs from Australia in the Melbourne test, BGT ( 4th test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy). Some reasons for this defeat are as follows:
Dismal performance from Rohit, Virat, and Rahul
None of the three put up any sort of support to Yashasvi Jaiswal. In both innings, the total scores of Rohit, Virat & Rahul are 12, 41 & 24 respectively.
Rishabh Pant’s cavalier disposition
Rishabh Pant has been nothing less than masterly throughout the Australia tour of 2020-21. He has been throwing away his wicket in this series like no one before him. In the first innings of this match, he created a huge blunder right in the beginning, on Pat Cummins’s first ball itself, and would repeat that sensation on his second delivery by playing the same shot so that the ball traveled in the air. Also, the second innings ended with a dismal post-tea effort by him as he was caught out attempting for another six by Mitchell Marsh at the boundary line.
Catches dropped by Yashasvi Jaiswal
Jaiswal dropped in total of 3 catches at crucial stages of the second innings. The three dropped catches were of Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagn,e and Pat Cummins.
Last 7 wickets fell in 34 runs
The Indian team once had a score of 121 and a loss of 3 wickets in the second innings. At this point, Rishabh Pant was dismissed as the fourth wicket; thereafter, the remaining players of the Indian team scored just 34 runs in 20.3 overs. This was very disappointing.
Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland batted magnificently for the last wicket
They made 171 runs in their second innings while losing nine wickets. But, Lyon and Boland put on 63 runs for their tenth wicket and took the score to 234 runs. The Indian bowlers couldn’t take the timely last wicket of Australia on the fourth day.
